About the Choir

Choir rehearsals are on Wednesdays 7:30-9:00pm. From September to April, rehearsals are at the Henleaze Bowling Club Pavilion, Grange Park Road, Henleaze. The pavilion is within walking distance of bus stops on Falcondale Road, the main road from central Bristol; and parking is usually available close by. In May and June, rehearsals are at Trinity-Henleaze United Reformed Church in Waterford Road, Henleaze. The church is within walking distance of bus stops on Henleaze Road; parking is also usually available nearby.

We are a friendly choir and socialise after rehearsals at least twice per term.

We are a self-financed choir and charge a membership subscription (reviewed annually); for 2026-27 the subscription is £150 per year, or £55 per term if paid in instalments. This covers the running costs such as room hire, and enables us to put on concerts with well-known local soloists and orchestral players.

Henleaze Choral Society was formerly known as the Bristol Cathedral Choir School Choral Society, and was founded as a Parents' Choir at the school. Many members remember with affection and pride our long musical partnership with the school. We changed our name in 2021 when we permanently moved our rehearsal location to Henleaze.

The choir has been in existence for over 35 years and has sung many of the choral classics. At recent concerts we have performed: Fauré Requiem, Dubois The Seven Last Words of Christ, Mozart Requiem, Bach Magnificat, Bach Cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben BWV147. We occasionally join with singers from other choirs for the larger works, including Yate Choral Society and, more recently, members of Bristol Opera chorus.
